Thumbs Up & New Photos From Mr Mercedes

The New York Times gives Mr Mercedes a thumbs up.

Mr. Mercedes
Season 1, AT&T/DirecTV, Aug. 9

Based on its first two episodes, this dramatization of the Edgar Award-winning 2014 mystery novel of the same title is the Stephen King adaptation to watch this summer. (Spike’s version of “The Mist” debuts June 22.) David E. Kelley wrote the 10-episode series about a retired detective taunted by a mass killer he couldn’t catch. It has a bit of a “Mr. Robot” vibe and an interesting cast that includes Brendan Gleeson, Holland Taylor, Breeda Wool, Kelly Lynch and Mary-Louise Parker. Harry Treadaway of “Penny Dreadful” plays the killer, replacing Anton Yelchin, who died last year before filming began.

Here are a few now photos from Mr Mercedes.

My thoughts on The Mist Pilot

Here is my review (pretty spoiler free) of the first episode of The Mist TV series. It premiers June 22 on Spike.

The Mist is here! The TV series that is. And let’s start with the elephant in the room. Is it a straight adaptation of King’s story?

You have heard about this before and now the time to help getting this documentary done is here. Pennywise: The Story of IT Documentary will be 3-hours long and cover everything about the 1990 adaptation of King’s books including over 20 interviews and over 2 hours of never-before-seen set footage from SFX wizard Bart Mixon. To make it happen the filmmakers need your help though and they are giving you a great opportunity to help and also get something in return. Besides the documentary itself your pledge will give you a copy of the documentary on DVD or blu-ray, a t-shirt or other cool stuff depending on how much you give.

Personally, I’m certain that they will get the money they need to make this documentary, the only question is if you will take the chance to be a part of it. Check out the video and then head over here to read all about it and find out how you can help.

The Shining Haunted House

Universal has announced that a house of horrors based on King’s The Shining and the movie adaptation from Stanley Kubrick will be coming to this year’s edition of “Halloween Horror Nights,” a series of huge haunted houses and other big-budget horror-themed attractions in Universal Studios Hollywood and Universal Orlando Resort every October.

A press release from Universal states that visitors to the Shining maze will get to find their way through the Overlook Hotel and its grounds, “bearing witness to caretaker Jack Torrance’s spiraling descent into insanity.” The release promises that “nightmarish visions will come to life in this macabre maze, overwhelming guests with the ‘shine’ of the murderous, ghostly entities that lurk around every turn.” It even promises that those same guests will “relive some of the film’s most iconic, and sinister, moments.”

Cover For The Dark Tower: The Art of the Film

Here is the cover for The Dark Tower: The Art of the Film by Daniel Wallace.

The Dark Tower: The Art of the Film
(Part of The Dark Tower)
By Daniel Wallace
This deluxe, illustrated official companion to the Dark Tower movie—based on Stephen King’s bestselling seven volume series—explores the art and creation of this extraordinary film, starring Idris Elba as The Gunslinger and Matthew McConaughey as his nemesis, The Man in Black.

A gorgeous celebration of the art and creation of the Dark Tower movie, The Making of the Dark Tower includes interviews with actors and the director, the costume designer, and the set designer. From revealing how casting found the stars and the photography team scouted key locations, thoughts on where the Dark Tower can go from here, the book is organized into five parts.

Part I: The Path to the Tower discusses the origins of the saga and its thematic and cultural influences. Part II: The Gunslinger and the Man in Black profiles the two characters as two opposing forces. Part III: Mid-World is a journey through the bizarre wasteland of interdimensional detritus that is Mid-World. Part IV: Keystone World might be our Earth, but the Keystone World of the Dark Tower universe is also rocked by quakes and stretched thin by interdimensional stress. Part V: The Dark Tower is the wrap-up section collecting insights from the film’s major players, sharing their favorite memories and looking back on the journey that led them to this point.

Over three decades ago Stephen King introduced readers to Roland Deschain, the last Gunslinger. In 2003 King wrote the last of seven novels in the Dark Tower series. Now fans of the book and of the movie will welcome this big, beautiful, full-color book that they’ll need for their collections.

Is IT A Loooooong Movie? Hopefully!

Posted: May 17, 2017, 01:02

Here is a photo that Barbara Muschietti shared on Instagram. It shows the editing room with a scene from the IT movie that we recognize from the second trailer. What's interesting with this photo is up in the left corner. There you can see the numbers 2:17:16:13. If this is what I think it is, it's the running time for the movie and would mean that this scene (which is probably not at the end of the movie) happen about 2 hours and 17 minutes into the movie and that tells me the movie will be very looooooong. Or the numbers could mean something totally different but let’s hope it’s the running time.

You can also see that this is from May 1st so there might have been other cuts done that would affect the running time…if that is what those numbers are…

As a bonus to The Eyes of the Dragon Art Portfolio Suntrup Editions will also publish a biography of the artist David Palladini.

From the Press Release:

As a bonus addition to The Eyes of the Dragon Art Portfolio featuring the artwork of David Palladini, Suntup Editions in collaboration with Mark Strong of Meibohm Fine Arts, Inc., is proud to announce the inclusion of a separate biographical book to both editions of the art portfolios.

The concise biography was written as a ‘fan tribute’ to the artist by Mark Strong, from almost nine years of compiled information about David Palladini’s personal life and career as an artist up to the present-day. The introduction, written by Mark, speaks of the serendipitous beginning of their friendship in 2008 with a simple phone call from David, which became his sole inspiration for writing the biography. The book, aptly titled Palladini, will include a 70-page biography, as well as over 60 full-color reproductions of artwork by David Palladini, including some of his best-known illustrations and never-before-published fine art. The perfect addition to the portfolios for Stephen King collectors and Palladini fans alike. Included free with all Portfolio orders.
