Mr Mercedes (S2) - Episode 3

Episode 3 continues to focus on Brady and Bill. Brady is taking over Sadie and Bill suspects that something is wrong. He doesn’t know what and I am so happy that he doesn’t figure out what’s happening right away. That would have been way too easy. Brady keeps in his basement and runs Sadie like a robot. Controlling what she does and says. And it works. I think that the way they have done it, it actually works. It might be too much to run with it all season but so far it works. Besides Bill and Brady, not much is happening. I would have loved to see more of Bill and Holly and how they work with their business Finders Keepers. I would have loved to have seen even more of Jerome but not as the dropout he is turning into. I don’t think that is him. He has gone from a fixer to a flunker and I don’t like that development and I have a hard time seeing that it will lead to anything good.

We get to see more of Lou Linklatter and how she struggles with what happened in season 1 (where Brady stabbed her) and how she’s trying to get over it. There is no doubt she is troubled and it will be interesting to see where her story arc is moving this season. I’m actually liking here more and more.

Dr. Babineau flashes by and I really like Jack Huston who plays him so I have no problem with him but his wife…that character is turning out to be a parody of itself. All she does is talk about her Asian investors and that they need to keep giving Brady the drug. Starting to get boring if you ask me. Another thing that I’m not that fond of in this episode is when Bill and his ex-wife end up in bed when he’s visiting her and after just a glass of wine. That part feels totally unnecessary and I think they should have left it out.

But besides these few “misses” the season is moving on and so far I’m liking what I see. One thing though is that I keep thinking that there won’t be time to tell the story in just 10 episodes but then I remind myself that that is probably not what they are aiming for. I don’t think we’ll see the end of the story in this season. And if you think about it like that, well, then you’re not in a rush any more.

Lilja's final words about Mr Mercedes (S2) - Episode 3:

I like the season but I also think that it needs to start. It needs more action. I’m all for letting us know the characters and the mood they are in but we know the characters, we know what their agenda is. Now we need to see it happen.
