Arnold Schwarzenegger commented on the new version of The Running Man in an interview with Comic Book.
“I mean, I love the idea that they’re doing a sequel to Running Man, or a remake,” Schwarzenegger said. “I don’t know what it’s going to be, but I mean, because I always felt when we did, Running Man was one of the movies that it did, that it felt like, I think it would have been great if we would have been better prepared for this movie, if we would have had more money for this movie, and if we would have had then … the visual effects, the technology of visual effects, that they have today, all of those things I wished after the movie came out, I felt like it could have been better. It was great, but it could have been better, and I think that they have a good chance now with the new Running Man to make it better. And I hope, for their sake and for my sake, I hope that they will be successful.”
The Running Man poster that showed up today might not be the official one. It's done by Creepy Duck Design who's done a lot of great looking concept posters. So, even though the poster looks great it's probably not the official one.
Colman Domingo has been cast as the game show host Damon Killian, played memorably by Richard Dawson in the 1987 film.
Also in the movie is Glen Powell as Ben Richards and Josh Brolin plays the central antagonist behind the violent reality show. Lee Pace will play chief hunter Evan McCone, Michael Cera is set to play ally Bradley Throckmorton and William H. Macy another character who will assist the film’s protagonist in some way.
Glen Powell has revealed to The Wrap that filming on The Running Man will begin in November. So far that’s about all we know about the movie, but a guess is that more info will be released closer to the filming starts. Another guess is that we hopefully will see it’s premier some time in 2025.
In an interview with Indie Wire Glen Powell mentions that he is about to start filming Edgar Wright’s The Running Man, a much closer adaptation to King’s book than the Arnold Schwarzenegger movie.
Speaking of “The Running Man,” how did that happen?
It was so fun for me because I searched “Edgar Wright” in my email the other day, writing “Edgar.” We’ve been going back and forth on script stuff, and it’s so fun. The world that Edgar’s developed on this thing is just outrageous. It’s so good. And really, we’re just both such big fans of the Stephen King book, and it’s going to be a great character. I’m so fired up about it. But I searched my email, and I searched Edgar Wright in my email, and it came up: I had a wish list of directors that I wanted to work with in 2008 when I moved out to LA that I sent my agent at the time — and Edgar Wright is literally number one. I’m such an Edgar Wright man. And so, the fact that I get to work with him right now is just so damn cool.
Deadline reports that Glen Powell is set to star in the remake of The Running Man. Edgar Wright will direct and produce with his producing partner Nira Park and Simon Kinberg.
Paramount Pictures is making a deal with Edgar Wright to direct a new adaptation of The Running Man. This won’t be a remake of the 1987 film with Arnold Schwarzenegger though. This time they will be much more faithful to King’s book. Michael Bacall will write the script and Simon Kinberg will produce.
