A Very Tight Place (the script)

A Very Tight Place is a relatively new story that we could first read in Just After Sunset. Now, it’s being turned into a Dollar Baby and I was fortunate enough to get a chance to read the script early. A Very Tight Place is one of my favorite short stories and I must admit that I was a bit skeptic to if it would be possible to turn it into a movie at all, and even more so when I heard it was going to be a Dollar Baby. All of you that have read the story know what I’m talking about, right? In the story Curtin Johnson gets looked into a port-a-pottie by his neighbor Tim Grunwald and we get to witness his escape from it…and that is NOT pretty.

However, after reading Derek Simon’s script I feel comfortable that it can be done. It probably won’t be as nasty as in the written version but still; I think the viewers will get a good idea of what’s happening and how Curtis feels while trying to get free from the port-a-pottie.

It’s always hard to judge how the finished movie will be after just reading a script but with A Very Tight Place I have a very good feeling. The script follows the story really well and if the leap from the written script to the finished movie isn’t to big (which can sometimes be the case) I think this will turn out to be a great Dollar Baby.

Lilja's final words about A Very Tight Place (the script):

I’m not sure when or if A Very Tight Place will be shown at film festivals but if it is and if you get a chance, check it out. The script is promising!
