The Secretary of Dreams vol. 2

Finally volume two of The Secretary of Dreams is being released. It’s highly anticipated and after flipping thorough it I’m not disappointed. The stories we get this time are One For the Road, The Monkey, Gray Matter, In the Death Room, Strawberry Spring and Nona.

Of the six stories you can find here three are made in a comic-like way. In One For the Road, Gray Matter and Strawberry Spring Glenn Chadbourne tells King’s story with frames, like a comic. The big difference between a comic though is that the text is in blocks like in a book and not “spoken” by the characters like in a normal comic.

The other stories are told in normal book form but with illustrations by Chadbourne. However parts of The Monkey and In the Death Room are illustrated with illustrations that are somewhat different from what at least I am used to see by Chadbourne. Normally his illustrations looks like they are done with a pen but these looks more like they are done with a brush if that makes any sense. Not being an expert on the subject I have no idea what the different techniques are called… Either way it’s nice to see more than one side of Chadbourn’s talent.

I like The secretary of Dreams books and my only objection is, like with the first book, that the font size is a little too big. It would have gone easier on the eyes if it was just a tiny bit smaller. You get used to it after a while though so it’s not that big of a problem but still. Most of the stories here are older stories from King. The newest is In the Death Room and I’m not sure how the selection process was and I’m not sure if I would have selected these stories if I were given the chance but still, being a bit older also means it was a while since I read them and I truly enjoyed reading them again.

If you get a chance, check out the second volume of The Secretary of Dreams, it’s definitely worth it. Especially if you haven’t read these stories in a while, or maybe if you haven’t read them at all, you’ll have a great time reading them.

Lilja's final words about The Secretary of Dreams vol. 2:

It’s nice that the second volume is finally here. It’s been a long wait but it was worth it!
